Who We Are

The Whiskers’ Syndicate

IMG_20170918_231419123We’re bunch of stray and feral cats from all miserable walk of life; until this girl with her bike pick us up and get us back to our good side. We got to live with her in this tiny, private sanctuary in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.

We love to run, jump and stomp on everything, especially our rescuer girl!

This site tells our quest to Canaan, God’s promised land, where human and animals live in peace.

Jump right in. Welcome to our frontier!

Josie About us

Josie T Lim

I run the Whiskers’ Syndicate: a tiny private cat refuge in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.

As a breeder capital of the nation, Bandung is overflowing with unwanted animals of all breeds, and the stray management is often, if not always, too gruesome to be true.

Sadly, the self appointed “big nation” has no animal welfare law, and conservation efforts are tainted by fearless corruption.

Devoid of any protection, animals in Indonesia are victimized by poachers, illegal trade, excessive milling, and treatment unfit for “someone”. Be they household animals, farm animals, or those in the wild, they are treated as “thing”. You will see some breeder get their kitty mill cat inside their motorcycle baggage cabin (that tiny, airless space under the saddle right at the side of gas tank) or tied their dog on an open truck and drive them all the way, miles away to the vet to find out when they can be mated again, rejecting the vet offer to treat some apparent sickness on their dog.

When they serve their purpose, they are either sold to flea market in cheap price, or just thrown away to the street, or to the highway to meet their end.

In the wake of such disaster, I am compelled to give my best effort in becoming the suffering animals’ best friend, the way they have been man’s best friends. Join our journey to Canaan: God’s promised land of peace and happiness in our blog: Quest2Canaan (http://www.whiskerssyndicate.com).

One life after another, I am trying as much as I can to help sick, abused, neglected animals on the street, as much as fund and space allowed. I begin very little by sending emails to friends, then joining communities, and finally establish a website to chronicle our journey to the day when we can all live as equals.

Started in 2008, in August 2012 we are chosen as Shelter of The Month by SPCA International and I took the opportunity to bring the Whiskers’ Syndicate to the next level.

That month also mark a giant leap when I finally able to purchase a private property so I can house the rescued cats properly as well  as trying to establish better TNR operation.

Between my various side jobs and when the mobster cats are sleeping, I am crafting items for the Whiskers’ Syndicate, but eventually persuaded to offer it to wider audience. Then born “Whiscraft” ( then http://whiscraft.etsy.com) to share the magical experience of loving your pet, and yourself.

All of the merchandise shown are handmade from unsold or excess product from textile mills or unused portions from garment manufacturers. We use our Whiscraft to enchant those scrap and give them new purpose, meaning no two pieces are ever alike. Yours is the only one in the world. The heart of our business is to make cute lifestyle that you can afford and love while sending 100% of our proceed to support our operation as the first and so far, the only cat sanctuary in Bandung, Indonesia.

Help me help abused, neglected street cats of Bandung, West Java, Indonesia by telling our story far and wide, support us directly through our website, become a distributor of our printed monthly newsletter, or shop for charity through Whiscraft. There are many ways to Rome, more way than that to help The Whiskers’ Syndicate.

See you midway to Canaan!
