HEY WORLD (DON’T GIVE UP)

This morning after the rain, the soil is still wet.
The fog still hung low, the darkness still lingers.
And the smell of wet earth, and the sound of morning dew, dripping off the leaves.
And the silent whisper of the wind, moving slowly, shifting gingerly, amidst the clouds, between the haze, flowing like the river across the street, down, down below.

This morning after the rain, the world stood still. Everybody else is still sleeping, though the clock is ticking, and the universe won’t stand awaiting for me.

Even hidden behind those small chests, the heart is beating, their blood streaming, their cells are working, the will that fills their soul is fighting.

Unlike last week, when the unseen stranger sneaked past their system, unlike two days ago, when hope is dim, unlike last night, when the advice came like that thunder in the night. “Don’t count on it Josie, if he heals, it’s a bonus”

Bonus is like surprises. Something one works hard for, and it comes with an extra. Bonus is not everyday, bonus come sneaking in silence like wind, like the virus that brought them down.

Bonus is not a trophy; and life does not grow on trees.

Life is like them, orphaned and sick, harmed and neglected.
Life is like them, who stood against the current to the last breath and singing:
I ain’t die without fighting.
Life is like the anthem “Hey, world, should I stuck around another day? or two?”
But unlike me, they don’t wait for an answer. Even though they are small and young and insignificant, they made their own roar “Don’t give up on me, like I don’t give up on you”

All I do, is answer the call.

With all I have, that came from all of you. With all my resources, that shared by you, with all my understanding, that I learn from you, with all my might, that sent by you. With all my experience, wisdom, musters, grace, all those that comes with age and tenure, and age and tenure that span and accumulated so much until today, because of you. Because you believe in me, because you follow me two steps behind, because you soar just high enough, to be the wind beneath my wings.

I don’t give up on them, like they don’t give up on me.

When the sun broke the new day, two hours late, many had started their way, the world had gone round, the time had pass by, but I am still here, still and quiet, just so they can sleep a little longer. Just so they can rest their sore and beaten and build anew.

When their heads perk from under the blanket, it’s miracle.

The eyes that once were closed, now open, the one that see the world with pain and sorrow, now brilliant. The leg that once broken, mend. The one who cannot stand, now tall. The one who cannot eat, now chews, the one who sneezes, now breathe, the one who was weak, now stronger, the one who was in pain, is holding on.

When I slowly cracked open a can of favorite food, they ran. They climbed down my chest and ran, tripped and hassled across the mounds and valleys of my bare bed that lost its protection because they soiled everything.

But it’s miracle none the less.

And lay in our front a new hope although it’s far at the end of the road of fear. A new chance, although it’s far at the end of the road of challenges. A new life, although war stretched between. The fear that this joy is short lived, the challenge of shortages, and with shortages, we lost the war, and with losing the war, comes death.

Hey world, what you say
Should we stick around for another day or two?
Don’t give up on them, we won’t give up on you
Just believe in them like they believe in you

Don’t give up on them, they won’t give up
And they try, try, try, try
I try, try, try, try

Please, world,
Don’t give up on them, they don’t give up on you
Just believe in them like they believe in you

Original lyrics:
Tell me why the grass was greener
Years ago, I swear, it used to grow here
But no more here

Tell me why on this hill
All the birds they used to come to fly here
Come to die here

Tell me why I need to know
Sometimes I wish I didn’t have to know
All you’ve shown me

Hey world, what you say
Should I stick around for another day or two?
Don’t give up on me, I won’t give up on you
Just believe in me like I believe in you

Tell me why, on the corner
All the kids that used to come to run here
Load their guns here

And tell me why it’s okay to kill in the name of the Gods we pray
Tell me who said it’s okay to die in the name of the lies we say
Tell me why there’s child soldiers
Tell me why they close the borders
Tell me how to fight disease, and
Tell me now, won’t you please

The only thing I want to do
Is to be in the arms of someone who
Believes in me, like I believe in you

And I say
Hey world what you say
Should I stick for around for another day
Hey world what you say
Should I stick for around for another day
Hey world what you say
Should I stick for around for another day or two?

Don’t give up on me, I won’t give up
And I try, try, try, try
I try, try, try, try
On you
Don’t give up on me
And I cry, cry, cry, cry
I cry, cry, cry, cry
on you
Just believe in me like I believe

Hey world, what you say
Hey world, what you say
Hey world, what you say
Should I stick around for another day
Hey world, what you say
Should I stick around for another day or two?

Don’t give up on me, I won’t give up on you
Just believe in me like I believe in you

Don’t give up on me

Hey world, what you say
Hey world, what you say
Hey world, what you say
Hey world, what you say?

Don’t give up on me, I won’t give up on you
Don’t give up on me, I won’t give up on you
